How Much Is the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress?

While the price-point of the Bloom Hybrid is on the higher end for mattresses in general, the mattress is competitively priced when compared to similar latex hybrid mattress models.

Latex offers several benefits that justify its price when compared to foam-based mattresses. First, latex is typically made from high-quality, natural sources. Second, latex offers superior durability when compared to foam. It’s important to note that these advantages still hold true in the case of a hybrid-style mattress like the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom in which latex layers are combined with pocketed coils.

How Does the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Feel?

The Bloom Hybrid is available in medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7-8) versions. The mattress combines latex and pocketed coil layers in its construction. This results in a sleep surface that is comfortably contouring, hugging your body moderately as you sleep, with a bouncy resilience that allows for easy movement. However, each firmness option provides a unique feel when it comes to support and body-contouring.

The medium soft option offers the most body-contouring. It hugs the sleeper’s body closely which can help alleviate pressure in areas prone to pain. The medium firm option provides more balance between body-contouring and support. This offers comfort while minimizing sagging. The firm option is the most supportive version of the Bloom Hybrid with minimal contouring.

As a result, it’s important to consider your weight and preferred sleep position when deciding which Bloom Hybrid option will be best for your needs. We’ll discuss the best options for different sleepers in more detail below.

What Is the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Made Of?

The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom mattress is made with layers of latex, pocketed innerspring coils, and polyfoam protected by a wool and cotton cover. The combination gives this mattress its hybrid distinction and provides the benefits of each material while minimizing their disadvantages. Now let’s take a closer look at each component of the Bloom Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding.

Cover Material

The Bloom Hybrid outer cover is non removable. It includes a 1 1/4 inch plush quilted top layer made with organic cotton and Joma wool. This type of wool is harvested in New Zealand and provides a high loft that’s ideal for mattresses. The combination of natural wool and cotton give the Bloom Hybrid breathability at its surface.

Comfort Layers

The comfort system of the Bloom Hybrid is composed of 3 inches of Talalay latex. Talalay is a type of natural latex derived from the sap of rubber trees. It tends to be softer, lighter, and have a more consistent firmness than other types of natural latex. Brooklyn Bedding uses Talalay latex that is certified Oeko-Tex class 1, which means it is free from hazardous chemicals.

Support Core

Similar to other hybrid mattresses, the Bloom Hybrid’s support core is made of pocketed coils. An 8-inch thick layer of more than 1,000 individually encased coils provides the base of support that stabilizes the bed and offers even support for sleepers. A final 1-inch layer of high-density polyfoam sits underneath the coils. This helps reinforce the pocketed coils as they compress and adds durability to the mattress.

Does the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Isolate Motion?

Rating: 4/5

The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid isolates motion better than most other latex hybrid models on the market. Motion isolation refers to how effectively a mattress can absorb motion across its surface. A mattress that isolates motion well will prevent disturbances on one side of the mattress from transferring to the other side of the mattress. This is especially important for couples who sleep together.

While the Bloom Hybrid does not completely eliminate motion transfer, it offers an above average amount of motion isolation. Latex mattresses tend to be more responsive at the expense of superior motion isolation. However, the Bloom Hybrid’s three-inch latex comfort layer absorbs motion better than similarly constructed latex hybrid models with responsive comfort layers. It’s important to note that we found the Bloom Hybrid’s medium soft model to offer a bit more motion isolation than the medium firm and firm options.

Does the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Sleep Cool?

Rating: 4/5

The Brooklyn bedding Bloom mattress sleeps remarkably cool. How cool a mattress feels throughout the night is referred to as its temperature neutrality. Temperature neutrality is influenced by several different factors including the material, layer thickness, and airflow. All of these factors determine the degree to which your mattress absorbs and retains your body heat.

The Bloom Hybrid sleeps very cool due to its construction. Its high-loft, wool-blend top layer and coil-based support core provide ample air circulation throughout the mattress’s layers. Unlike other foams, latex is known to not trap too much body heat. The pocketed coil support core features tons of space between the coils, allowing for plenty of airflow throughout the lower of the mattress. Finally, wool is known as a breathable material with strong moisture wicking capabilities, further preventing overheating.

Will It Sag Along the Edges?

Rating: 3/5

The layers of high-density polyfoam and pocketed coils that make up the Bloom Hybrid's support core reinforce the sleep surface to minimize sagging along the edges and provide strong edge support. Edge support refers to a mattress's ability to support a sleeper’s body weight at the edges of the sleep surface.

Without strong edge support, a mattress will sink when weight is applied at the perimeter. But when the edges are properly reinforced, the mattress perimeter can support body weight, increasing the usable surface of your mattress. Although the firm version provides the most support, the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom mattress offers good edge support in all three firmness options.

Is It Good for Sex?

Rating: 4/5

With a balance between conforming comfort and resilience, the Bloom Hybrid provides couples with a bouncy surface and fair amount of traction that's great for sex. Mattresses that are more resilient, or bouncy, tend to make movement feel effortless. However, couples looking to do more than sleep on their mattress must balance resilience with comfort.

A mattress that is moderately firm and offers a moderate amount of contouring will offer greater comfort for multiple positions. The Bloom Hybrid’s combination of pocketed coils and latex provide the ideal balance between body-hugging comfort and responsiveness, making this mattress excellent for sex.

What About Off-gassing?

Rating: 4/5

The Bloom Hybrid emits minimal odor and receives an excellent score in the off-gassing category. Off-gassing refers to the initial emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) after you unbox and decompress your new mattress.

VOCs are a byproduct of some mattress manufacturing processes. Although they are non-toxic, they can create an unpleasant odor. This is especially true when mattresses are vacuum sealed after production as is the case with most mattress-in-a-box brands.

We noticed only a subtle odor directly after unpacking the Bloom Hybrid. Additionally, all odor dissipated quickly, likely due to the ample airflow provided by the Bloom Hybrid’s coiled support core.

What Type of Sleeper Is the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Best for?

With multiple comfort options, we think the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom mattress has something to offer every type of sleeper. Overall, the Bloom Hybrid’s latex-based comfort system and coil-based support core provide both moderate body-contouring comfort and resilient support. And with three firmness options to choose from, the majority of sleepers will be able to get a good night’s sleep regardless of their sleep position preference.

  • Side Sleepers: Side sleepers tend to prefer a slightly softer sleep surface, although this will also depend on the sleeper’s body weight. A softer mattress provides cushioning for the most common pressure points in side sleepers, the hips and shoulders. The Bloom Hybrid comes in a medium soft firmness option as well firmer options for side sleepers of all preferences.
  • Combination Sleepers: Combination sleepers shift between all three sleep positions, side, stomach, and back, throughout the night. While many combination sleepers tend to favor one position, they face the challenge of finding a mattress that feels comfortable in every sleep posture. We found the Bloom Hybrid medium firm offered the most comfort for the widest variety of sleep positions. However, depending on comfort preferences and weight, the medium soft or firm options can also work for combination sleepers.
  • Back Sleepers: Back sleepers typically experience the most pressure in their lumbar area or lower back. They required a mattress that provides even support without excessive sagging. Soft mattresses lack support, causing sleepers to sink too deeply into the mattress and disrupting proper spinal alignment. But overly firm mattresses provide too little cushioning, creating painful pressure points. This means back sleepers often prefer a medium to medium firm mattress with moderate contouring and resilience, which perfectly describes the Bloom Hybrid.
  • Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers usually require a firm, even surface that does not conform to the body much. Mattresses that are too soft will allow for the midsection to sink in the mattress, leading to spinal misalignment. The firm option of the Bloom Hybrid should suit stomach sleepers well.

How Does Body Weight Impact the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress' Performance?

With three firmness options, sleepers of all sizes will enjoy the feel of the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid. Body weight can have a significant impact on sleep comfort. How much you weigh will affect what type of mattress you prefer.

Sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds don’t put as much pressure on a mattress and tend to prefer softer sleep surfaces. Individuals in this category will find the medium soft version of the Bloom Hybrid suits their comfort preferences well. However, back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds may also appreciate the support of the Bloom Hybrid medium firm option.

Sleepers who weigh between 130 pounds and 230 pounds put moderate pressure on their mattresses and therefore tend to prefer sleep surfaces with a moderate amount of support and body-contouring such as the medium firm Bloom Hybrid. As always, make sure to take into account personal preferences. The Bloom Hybrid medium soft may be a better fit if you enjoy deeper body-contouring.

Sleepers who are over 230 pounds place the most pressure on their mattress. As a result, a more firm, supportive mattress will be the best option to prevent sleepers from sinking too deeply into the sleep surface. Sleepers in the category found the firm Bloom Hybrid to be comfortable regardless of sleep position.

Is the Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Good for Couples?

Overall, the Bloom Hybrid is an excellent option for couples. Compared to other hybrid mattresses on the market, the Bloom offers above average motion isolation and produces minimal noise. These are important factors for couples to consider, especially if one person is a light sleeper who is easily disturbed by sound or motion.

The combination of a latex comfort layer and pocketed coil support core gives this mattress a resilient bounce. Resilience makes movement easier which can be helpful for sex. Importantly, the resilience of the Bloom Hybrid does not compromise motion isolation or a quiet sleep experience.

Lastly, the Bloom Hybrid also boasts moderate edge support and superior temperature neutrality. These are often overlooked but relevant considerations for couples. Edge support increases the usable surface of a mattress while temperature neutrality helps prevent overheating during the night, both important factors when you have two people sharing the same mattress.
