DreamCloud Premier Mattress Review: Our Verdict

With a hybrid construction that alleviates pressure points and provides full-body support, the DreamCloud Premier is an ideal choice for side and back sleepers. Both types of sleepers will benefit from the moderately conforming memory foam Euro top, in addition to the supportive coil base. The hybrid construction ensures plenty of airflow throughout the mattress, keeping hot sleepers comfortable by dissipating heat.

Since the DreamCloud Premier is medium firm, it may not be the best choice for sleepers who like a soft mattress they can sink into. As it falls near the middle of the firmness scale, it also may not be firm enough for stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds.

While the DreamCloud Premier is a good pick for value-minded shoppers with a competitive price-point, generous sleep trial, and lifetime warranty, those who want to spend closer to $1,000 on a queen size mattress may want to consider the DreamCloud Mattress instead.

How Does the DreamCloud Premier Feel?

The DreamCloud Premier is rated as a medium firm, or a 6 on the 10-point firmness scale. This means it balances moderate contouring with full-body support. Sleepers should not expect to sink deeply into the mattress, though the Euro top does have a layer of memory foam quilted into the cover for a cradling effect. Combined with the second layer of memory foam, the Euro top cushions pressure points and reduces tension throughout the body.

The multiple layers of foam result in standout pressure-relieving capability for a hybrid mattress. A layer of conventional foam serves as a transition layer to ensure sleepers do not press into the coil support base.

The foam layers spring back to shape quickly when pressure is removed, so it is easy for sleepers to move around on the DreamCloud Premier. The medium firmness and resilient foam layers prevent the feeling of being stuck. The Euro top is evenly quilted for a smooth surface.

Individually encased coils form the base of the DreamCloud Premier. The hybrid construction helps keep the spine aligned, and sleepers should feel fully supported.

What Is the DreamCloud Premier Made Of?

The DreamCloud Premier is a hybrid mattress with six layers. The Euro top adds height to the mattress and the multiple layers result in a 15-inch profile. This is higher than the average mattress, so shoppers will likely want to invest in deep pocket fitted sheets to accommodate the high profile of the DreamCloud Premier. The DreamCloud Premier consists of the following layers:

Cover Material
The cover of the DreamCloud Premier is a Cashex cashmere blend for softness and breathability. The cover wicks away heat and moisture and allows air to circulate throughout the mattress. While previous iterations of the DreamCloud Mattress were hand-tufted, the DreamCloud Premier cover is quilted for a flatter, more even surface.

Comfort Layers
The cover is quilted with a comfort layer of high-loft memory foam to cushion pressure points and moderately contour to the shape of the body. A layer of gel-infused memory foam beneath the Euro top offers additional pressure relief and even weight distribution while drawing heat away from the body.

A transition layer of conventional foam helps reduce motion transfer and keeps sleepers from sinking into the coil support core. All of the foams used are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and free of heavy metals and ozone depleters.

Support Core
The support core of the DreamCloud Premier is made of individually encased coils, which respond independently to pressure for minimal motion transfer and responsive support. Coils add airflow throughout the mattress and prevent heat retention.

The perimeter of the coil base includes two rows of thicker coils for sturdy edge support, so sleepers feel supported when sleeping near the edge of the bed. The bolstered edge support also increases the amount of usable surface area for couples and prevents sagging along the edges over time.

Does it Isolate Motion?

Rating: 3/5
The DreamCloud Premier isolates motion better than most hybrid mattresses. The comfort system includes two layers of memory foam to absorb movements and prevent motion from rippling across the bed. This helps minimize sleep disturbances for those who share the bed with a partner or a pet. The transition layer of soft conventional foam acts as an additional layer of protection against motion transfer.

While innerspring coils add bounce to the DreamCloud Premier, this support base is sandwiched between two layers of foam to minimize motion transfer. Additionally, the coils are individually encased in fabric so they react independently to pressure.

Since the DreamCloud Premier is easy to move around on with bounce from the coil base, there is still the possibility of larger movements being felt in other areas of the bed. Smaller movements are less likely to transfer.

Does it Sleep Cool?

Rating: 4/5
The DreamCloud Premier is highly rated for temperature regulation, and should sleep cool for most. Hybrids generally regulate temperature well, and the DreamCloud is on par with its competitors. The breathable construction allows for plenty of airflow, making it a great choice for hot sleepers. Each component of the DreamCloud Premier helps draw heat away from the body.

The lightweight, breathable cashmere blend cover wicks away both heat and moisture. And since the quilted Euro top moderately contours to the shape of the body, air can still circulate to help dissipate body heat. One of the layers of memory foam is infused with thermally conductive gel to help prevent heat retention. The coil support core encourages airflow throughout the mattress, dissipating any residual body heat. The foam layer that reinforces the coils is porous for additional airflow.

Will It Sag Along the Edges?

Rating: 4/5
The edge to edge encased coils prevent sagging along the edges of the DreamCloud Premier. Hybrids tend to have sturdy edge support, and the updated design of the DreamCloud Premier includes a double row of thicker coils for improved edge support.

The reinforced perimeter allows individuals to sleep and sit near the edge of the bed without the feeling of sinking in or rolling off of the bed. This is ideal for couples, who benefit from more usable surface area. It also makes it easier to get in and out of bed, as the edges are sturdy and supportive.

Since the DreamCloud Premier is medium firm, the foam layers prevent sinking in deeply, which also helps the mattress resist impressions and sagging over time.

Is It Good for Sex?

Rating: 4/5
The DreamCloud Premier offers ease of movement and responsiveness for sex. Hybrid mattresses tend to have plenty of bounce, which makes it easier to change positions and move around during amorous activity. The DreamCloud Premier is no exception and most couples should find that the mattress is conducive to sex.

The edge to edge support of the mattress allows couples to use the entire surface area of the bed comfortably. There is minimal noise from the coil support layer, as the coils are individually encased and surrounded by layers of soft foam. Though the comfort system includes memory foam, which can feel restrictive, the medium firmness and added layer of polyfoam keep users from feeling stuck in the mattress.

What About Off-gassing?

Rating: 3/5
There is an initial odor when the DreamCloud Premier is first unboxed, which can be attributed to the foam layers used in the comfort system. Off-gassing occurs as the mattress airs out and the foam layers release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This is not considered to be harmful, especially since the foams used in the DreamCloud Premier are CertiPUR-US certified. The mattress is low in VOCs and any initial off-gassing should dissipate quickly.

What Type of Sleeper Is the DreamCloud Premier Mattress Best for?

The medium firm rating of the DreamCloud Premier, along with its pressure-relieving hybrid construction, make it a good fit for nearly all sleepers. The layers of foam gently contour to the shape of the body for a personalized feel, without letting sleepers press deeply into the mattress. The coils offer plenty of support to help keep the spine aligned. While we find it is a good fit for most sleepers, there are special considerations that shoppers should keep in mind based on their preferred sleeping position.

Side Sleepers: Side sleepers will notice that their hips and shoulders press into the mattress, and they need a cushioning surface to help prevent pressure points from developing in these areas. The DreamCloud Premier has a foam comfort system that cushions the shoulders and hips, while the supportive base helps keep the spine in proper alignment.

Combination Sleepers: Combination sleepers shift positions throughout the night, so the mattress must be easy to move around on. The DreamCloud Premier fits the bill, with resilient foam layers and a springy coil base that help sleepers shift positions. Combination sleepers may have a primary sleeping position that should be taken into consideration when purchasing a mattress, but the DreamCloud Premier is well-suited for back, side, and stomach sleeping.

Back Sleepers: Back sleepers are more likely to maintain a neutral posture as they sleep, but they need proper lumbar support to keep the spine aligned. The DreamCloud Premier contours to the shape of the body, including the lumbar region. The supportive construction prevents the lower back from sinking deeply into the mattress, which helps keep the spine aligned.

How Does Body Weight Impact Performance?

Sleeping position is not the only essential consideration for shoppers, as body weight can also impact the performance of a mattress. The DreamCloud Premier offers full-body support for a variety of sleeping positions and body types but there are a few considerations. When we talk about how body weight affects mattress performance, we consider sleepers in three key categories: those who weigh less than 130 pounds, those who weigh between 130 pounds and 230 pounds, and those who weigh more than 230 pounds.

For sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, the DreamCloud Premier offers enough contouring to relieve pressure points. Back and stomach sleepers should find that they are properly supported by the foam layers and coil support core. Side sleepers should also feel comfortable, though some may prefer a slightly softer mattress for additional cushioning at the shoulders.

Those who weigh between 130 pounds and 230 pounds benefit the most from the balance of contouring and support found in the DreamCloud Premier. These sleepers put more pressure on the mattress than those who weigh 130 pounds, so they will find that the foam comfort layers conform a bit more. The foam transition layer prevents excessive sinkage, while the coil support core helps keep the spine aligned.

Sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds will likely appreciate the high profile and pillow top of the DreamCloud Premier, as it keeps them from feeling the support base of coils. The DreamCloud Premier is supportive enough for sleepers in this weight category, especially if they sleep on their backs or sides. Those who sleep on their stomachs should still feel the mattress is supportive, but they may prefer a firmer model that prevents their abdomens and hips from pressing in too deeply.

Is it Good for Couples?

The DreamCloud Premier is a good choice for couples for a few reasons. It has a medium firm feel that accommodates nearly every sleeping position and body type, so couples with different needs and preferences may find it is a good compromise. Also, since the mattress has sturdy edge support, couples can comfortably use the entire mattress instead of having to cozy up towards the center.

The DreamCloud Premier balances motion isolation and ease of movement. That means that it reduces motion transfer and prevents one sleeper from feeling the movements of their partner throughout the night. That being said, the foam layers and bouncy spring coils also help facilitate movement when needed, which is conducive for amorous activity.

Since the hybrid construction encourages airflow, the DreamCloud Premier maintains a temperature neutral feel. Each layer helps prevent heat retention to keep couples comfortable throughout the night.
