DreamCloud Premier Mattress: Our Verdict

The DreamCloud Premier Mattress embodies the signature balance of comfort and support that hybrid mattresses are known for. With a multilayered comfort system and a pocketed coil support core, the DreamCloud Premier blends plushness with pushback for a mid-range feel that has broad appeal across sleep positions and body types.

Featuring above-average ratings in key performance categories like motion isolation, pressure relief, and edge support, the Premier offers excellent value for shoppers looking for a versatile, well-rounded mattress.

DreamCloud Premier Mattress: An Introduction

DreamCloud is part of the Resident family of home furnishing brands that also includes the direct-to-consumer mattress companies Nectar, Awara, and Siena.

Besides the Premier, DreamCloud offers two additional hybrid options. The flagship DreamCloud Mattress is the company’s most affordable model, while the top-end Premier Rest adds additional comfort layers to its 16-inch profile for a plusher feel.

We’ll review the mid-range DreamCloud Premier Mattress, exploring what it’s like to sleep on, what it’s made of, and how it fared during tests in our sleep lab.

How We Review

We personally test each mattress we review. Our team includes testers of varying sleep position preferences and body types to ensure our recommendations represent more than a single point of view. Our evaluations form the basis of our guidance designed to make choosing a mattress easier.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the DreamCloud Premier Mattress?

The DreamCloud Premier Mattress has a medium firm (6) feel, with a Euro-top quilted with memory foam and polyfoam balanced by a responsive polyfoam transition layer, individually wrapped steel coils, and a sturdy polyfoam base layer. Together, the foam layers and innerspring core give the Premier Mattress the quintessential balance of comfort and support that make hybrid mattresses a popular choice.

DreamCloud Premier Mattress Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Mid-range firmness works for many body types and sleep positions
  • Offers an appealing balance of comfort and support
  • Solid performance ratings across key sleep categories

Cons

  • Sleepers over 230 pounds may prefer a firmer mattress
  • Plush Euro-top may make it harder to change positions
  • Multiple foam layers contribute to a moderate off-gassing rating

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

Our team found that the DreamCloud Premier Mattress has a medium firm feel, or a 6 on our 10-point firmness scale. This mid-range rating gives the mattress broad appeal, with side, back, and stomach sleepers on our team all finding a good balance between comfort and support.

The mattress also performed well across weight ranges. While our testers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds found the DreamCloud Premier to be the best fit, those on either end of that range also found adequate support without sacrificing comfort.

Back Sleepers3/54/53/5
Stomach Sleepers4/54/53/5

Side Sleepers

The side sleepers on our testing team weighing between 130 and 230 pounds gave the DreamCloud Premier excellent ratings. The mattress’ balance of comfort and support cradled curves and provided uplift, promoting alignment.

While our side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds found the Premier a bit too firm, the contouring of the comfort layers helped offset the pushback of the support core. Similarly, the Premier’s pocketed coil core helps counteract the softness of the comfort layers for side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds.

Back Sleepers

As with side sleepers, our back sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds found the most to like in the Premier’s mix of conforming comfort layers and a supportive innerspring core.

The Premier’s sleep surface ran a bit firm for back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds, while back sleepers over 230 pounds wanted a little more support.

Stomach Sleepers

The DreamClound Premier worked best for the stomach sleepers on our team who weigh less than 230 pounds. The combination of solid pushback from the coils and responsive contouring from the comfort layers helped reduce sinkage and pressure points.

While slightly less impressed, our stomach sleepers over 230 pounds had enough cushioned comfort and adequate support to give the Premier satisfactory reviews.

Our Performance Ratings

We’ve evaluated the DreamCloud Premier Mattress across a range of sleep performance categories using a five-point scale, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent.

Pressure Relief

Rating: 4/5

The memory foam in the Premier’s Euro-top conforms to the body, cradling the joints and natural curves of the spine. Two polyform layers add further responsiveness and contouring. The comfort system works in concert with the pocketed coil support core to uplift and support the shoulders, hips, and lumbar region.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 4/5

Generally, the pocketed coil support cores of hybrid mattresses allow for more airflow than all-foam mattresses. The Premier’s individually wrapped coils and a naturally breathable cashmere blend cover help offset the upper memory foam layer’s tendency to retain heat.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 4/5

The DreamCloud Premier has multiple foam layers that absorb motion. Individually wrapped coils in the support core avoid the motion transfer that’s common with traditional innerspring mattresses. The result is a sleep surface that remains relatively undisturbed even when sharing the bed with restless sleep partners, children, or pets.

Edge Support

Rating: 4/5

With the added pushback of steel springs, hybrid mattresses usually have better edge support than all-foam models, and the DreamCloud Premier is no exception. Sturdier coils along each border of the mattress reinforce the edges so that they hold up under pressure. This expands the usable surface of the mattress and makes it easier to get into and out of bed.

Durability

Rating: 3/5

While there are no guarantees regarding the lifespan of a mattress, general estimates can be made that take into account the mattress type and the quality of materials used in its construction. We expect you may need to consider replacing the DreamCloud Premier within 6 to 8 years, which is typical of a hybrid mattress, though it may last longer with proper care.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 3/5

A plush Euro-top quilted with memory foam in the uppermost layer is beneficial for sleepers prioritizing pressure relief and comfort, though the deep contouring of the memory foam can also impede movement and make it harder to change positions. However, our testers under 230 pounds noted that the underlying steel coils offer decent counterpoint to the closely conforming foams.

Sex

Rating: 4/5

The DreamCloud Premier’s pocketed coils respond independently to movement and pressure changes, delivering bouncy, supportive pushback for couples. At the same time, the quilted Euro-top provides cushioning during sex, and the 2.5-inch polyfoam transition layer acts as a buffer between the surface and the responsive coils.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 3/5

Off-gassing refers to the chemical smell created by the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) after unboxing foam-based products. While the DreamCloud Premier uses slightly more foam than a typical hybrid, all DreamCloud foams are certified by CertiPUR-US, indicating they have low VOC emissions and are free of potentially harmful chemicals.

What Is the DreamCloud Premier Mattress Made Of?

The 14-inch DreamCloud Premier Mattress features a cashmere blend cover quilted with an inch of memory foam and an inch of soft polyfoam. A transition layer featuring 2.5 inches of polyfoam separates the plush upper layers and the 8.5-inch support core of individually wrapped steel coils.

A final inch of polyfoam forms the Premier’s sturdy base. The lower cover’s tufted side panels add stability and prevent shifting.

How Much Does the DreamCloud Premier Mattress Cost?

Hybrid mattresses generally cost more than all-foam or innerspring mattresses since more materials are used in their construction. Accordingly, the DreamCloud Premier’s price-point is higher than average when looking at all mattress types, but within the hybrid category, it’s on the lower end of mid-range. Given the quality of its materials and thoughtful construction, the Premier’s price represents a significant value.

Which DreamCloud Mattress Is Right for You?

The DreamCloud brand includes three hybrid models. Its flagship offering, the DreamCloud Mattress, is also its most affordable option. The DreamCloud Premier has upgraded support due to a thicker transition layer. Stomach sleepers on our testing team weighing between 130 and 230 pounds appreciated the extra cushioning that helped prevent sinkage.

The Premier Rest is DreamCloud’s most expensive option. Featuring a more robust comfort system that gives it a plusher feel, its 16-inch profile is 2 inches thicker than the other models. While our side sleepers under 230 pounds appreciated the added cushioning, most of our back and stomach sleepers found its softer feel less appealing.
