ReST Bed with Purple Grid Review
ReST Original With Gel Grid
The ReST Bed with Purple Grid is a smart mattress that combines memory foam, a hyper-elastic polymer grid developed by Purple, and five zoned air chambers to provide adjustable firmness and pressure relief.
As a smart mattress, the ReST Bed uses proprietary fabric with sensor technology to adapt to each sleeper’s unique needs. Air chambers in the support core automatically adjust as needed throughout the night to provide customized support. Customers who upgrade by adding BedJet technology also enjoy a mattress that stays the temperature of their choice all night long.
ReST also sells a similar mattress with a lower price-point, called the ReST Smart Bed Original. The original ReST Bed does not contain the Purple Grid. Instead, it has a thick memory foam comfort system for pressure relief.
We’ll focus on the ReST Smart Bed with Purple Grid, detailing how well it performs with sleepers of different body weights and sleep position preferences. We’ll also review ReST’s company policies related to shipping, sleep trial, returns, and warranty.

How Much is the ReST Bed with Purple Grid?
The ReST Bed with Purple Grid has a higher than average price-point for an airbed. The ReST Beds are the only mattresses that use ReST’s proprietary technology to adjust firmness throughout the night in response to sleepers’ bodies.
There are multiple other smart beds on the market, but those mattresses often cost less because they use smart technology in other ways. Some measure body temperature and make the bed cooler or warmer in response (a feature also available with the ReST Bed, to those who upgrade with BedJet). Other smart beds collect data from sleepers, such as heart rate and movement frequency.
Although other smart beds are also impressive, few automatically adjust firmness to create an ideal, customized surface. Because the ReST Bed uses advanced technology not found in most mattresses, it carries one of the higher price tags on the market.

How Does the ReST Bed Feel?
Since the ReST Bed mattress can be manually or automatically set to different firmness levels ranging from soft to firm, its overall feel is changeable. The feel of the bed corresponds to its current firmness level setting.
That said, the comfort layers of the ReST Bed remain the same regardless of the firmness level setting, so there is some consistency in its overall feel. Most sleepers find that the ReST Bed with Purple Grid blends conforming and responsiveness. A memory foam comfort layer reinforces the Purple Grid.
Unless the firmness level is set too high for the sleeper’s body weight, the ReST Bed shouldn’t feel overly firm. The combination of the Purple Grid and memory foam results in standout pressure relief for most sleepers.
What Is the ReST Bed with Purple Grid Made Of?
The ReST Best with Purple Grid is made of the following materials:
Cover Material
Removable performance cover
Comfort Layers
2″ Purple Grid, 2” gel-infused memory foam
Support Core
Adjustable air chambers
The ReST Bed is covered in performance material that’s both breathable and moisture-wicking. Sleepers can easily remove the cover because it features a zipper, which goes all the way around the bed. Once removed, the cover may be machine washed.
Beneath the cover is the 2-inch Purple Grid, which is made of hyper-elastic polymer. The Purple Grid responds to pressure and cradles the body for pressure relief. The open channels of the grid also encourage airflow throughout the mattress and help fight heat retention.
Beneath the Purple Grid sits two inches of gel-infused memory foam. Memory foam offers additional pressure relief while reinforcing the Purple Grid. The gel infusion helps offset any potential heat retention.
The smart sensor layer sits between the memory foam layer and the support core, and it contains the tech that makes the ReST Bed a smart mattress. The smart sensor is a layer of knit blend fabric with around 1,000 sensor points on each side of the bed. This layer is soft and flexible, so you should not feel it beneath you. The sensors collect data and transmit it to an air pump and the ReST Bed app.
Adjustable air chambers make up the ReST Bed’s support core. There are five air chambers, which correspond to the following body parts: the head, shoulders, lumbar region, hips, and legs.
The five zoned air chambers create a customized mattress surface. Since body weight isn’t evenly distributed throughout the body, it makes sense for different mattress zones to be firmer or softer than others. The ReST Bed’s smart sensors determine how much pressure different parts of the body are putting on the bed and increase or decrease firmness in zoned areas accordingly.
To change the ReST Bed’s firmness level, the bed’s air pump must be plugged into an outlet. Sleepers can set the bed’s firmness using one of three modes: manual, auto-position, or automatic.
What Type of Sleeper Is the ReST Bed with Purple Grid Best For?
Because the ReST Bed is so customizable, it excels for all types of sleepers. Side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers all rate the ReST Bed positively. That said, there are some differences across sleepers depending on sleep position preference.
Side Sleepers
The ReST Bed works exceptionally well for side sleepers of all body weights. This group of sleepers finds that they experience superior pressure relief on the ReST Bed compared to other mattresses. Oftentimes, side sleepers develop pressure points in their hips, shoulders, or neck because they aren’t uniformly supported. The ReST Bed’s uniquely constructed support core features five zoned air chambers that can provide customized firmness beneath different body parts, which promotes spinal alignment in side sleepers.
Combination Sleepers
Combination sleepers that switch from sleeping on their sides to their backs throughout the night find that the ReST Bed works exceptionally well for them. In fact, the ReST Bed comes with an option specifically designed for combination sleepers, allowing them to preset two custom firmness settings. Then, as the bed senses the sleeper has moved from their side to their back (or vice versa), it changes to the associated firmness setting accordingly.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers enjoy as much comfort and pressure relief on the ReST Bed as side sleepers. One of the bed’s zoned air chambers is dedicated to the lumbar region. This air chamber can be adjusted to provide the exact amount of support a back sleeper needs beneath their back.
Stomach Sleepers
Most stomach sleepers enjoy the ReST Bed. These sleepers often need a firm surface for proper support, especially underneath the abdomen and hips. Stomach sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds might find they’d like an even firmer mattress, though most still feel properly supported by the ReST Bed.
How Does Body Weight Impact Performance?
Body weight can impact the performance of any mattress, but the adjustability of the ReST Bed with Purple Grid accommodates the needs and preferences of all different body types.
Across all sleeping position preferences, sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds have an exceptionally positive experience on the ReST Bed with Purple Grid. These sleepers rate the bed highly, as they experience maximum pressure relief from the Purple Grid and memory foam layers.
Sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds also report feeling a combination of full-body support and pressure point relief from the ReST Bed with Purple Grid, especially when side and back sleeping. Stomach sleepers in this weight category benefit from the supportive Purple Grid, though they may want to adjust the mattress to a firm setting for a better experience.
Side and back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds rate the ReST Bed positively. These sleepers receive adequate support and pressure relief on the bed. Stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds report feeling properly supported, but some prefer a firmer mattress.
Is it Good for Couples?
The ReST Bed with Purple Grid is an excellent option for couples who need different firmness levels on each side of the bed. Queen and larger sizes include data points and air chambers on each side of the bed, so the firmness level can be customized to each sleeper. The bed also comes in split queen and king options for an additional cost. Customers who opt for the split mattress can operate each side of the bed independently with an adjustable base.
The optional BedJet add-on can be customized to maintain different temperatures on each side of the bed. This option is useful for couples in which one person sleeps hot and another does not.
The ReST Bed isolates motion well, largely due to the cradling Purple Grid and memory foam. As a result, most sleepers who share a bed won’t be bothered by their partner’s movements throughout the night. These conforming properties can somewhat inhibit movement during sex, but most sleepers don’t find that to be a major problem with this bed.
What Smart Features Does the ReST Bed Have?
The ReST Bed can be set to continually monitor sleepers’ body weight distribution and sleep positions, then adjust firmness in response. Additionally, if customers opt for the BedJet upgrade, the bed can maintain a set, pre-programmed temperature throughout the night.
Cutting edge technology makes the ReST Bed able to do what it does. Beneath its surface, the ReST Bed has a layer of fabric containing around 1,000 sensors on each side of the bed. These sensors collect data and transmit it to ReST Bed app and a quiet air pump. On queen and larger sizes, sleepers sharing a bed can enjoy different firmness levels on their respective sides. Queen and king sizes are also available in split top options for use with an adjustable base.
The ReST Bed’s support core contains five air chambers, each under a different portion of the body. Each of the five zoned chambers can be set to maintain a different firmness level, ensuring each body part is supported the way that it needs. The result is a custom, pressure-relieving mattress surface.
Sleepers can choose to adjust the firmness level of the ReST Bed in one of three ways:
Manual: The sleeper dictates the firmness of each air chamber.
Auto-position: The bed adjusts between two preset customized settings whenever the sleeper changes sleeping position.
Automatic: The bed automatically and continually determines the ideal customized firmness of each air chamber in response to the sleeper’s body weight distribution and sleeping position.
Sleepers can manage their ReST Bed through the ReST Bed app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices. The bed sensors communicate with both the app and the pump via a closed Wi-Fi connection. The pump must be plugged into an electrical outlet to work. The bed will not deflate if the pump is unplugged or electricity goes out, but sleepers will not be able to change firmness until electricity is restored.
The BedJet upgrade increases the bed’s smart capabilities, along with its price. With BedJet, the ReST Bed continually monitors the temperature of the mattress surface. If the bed deviates from a pre-set temperature, the BedJet device connected to the mattress will add heated or cooled air into the air chambers. BedJet can be set so each side of a queen or king mattress default to different temperatures.
