The ReST Bed with Purple Grid is a smart mattress that combines memory foam, a hyper-elastic polymer grid developed by Purple, and five zoned air chambers to provide adjustable firmness and pressure relief.

As a smart mattress, the ReST Bed uses proprietary fabric with sensor technology to adapt to each sleeper’s unique needs. Air chambers in the support core automatically adjust as needed throughout the night to provide customized support. Customers who upgrade by adding BedJet technology also enjoy a mattress that stays the temperature of their choice all night long.

The ReST Bed with Purple Grid has a higher than average price-point for an airbed. The ReST Beds are the only mattresses that use ReST’s proprietary technology to adjust firmness throughout the night in response to sleepers’ bodies.

There are multiple other smart beds on the market, but those mattresses often cost less because they use smart technology in other ways. Some measure body temperature and make the bed cooler or warmer in response (a feature also available with the ReST Bed, to those who upgrade with BedJet). Other smart beds collect data from sleepers, such as heart rate and movement frequency.

How Does the ReST Bed Feel?

Since the ReST Bed mattress can be manually or automatically set to different firmness levels ranging from soft to firm, its overall feel is changeable. The feel of the bed corresponds to its current firmness level setting.

That said, the comfort layers of the ReST Bed remain the same regardless of the firmness level setting, so there is some consistency in its overall feel. Most sleepers find that the ReST Bed with Purple Grid blends conforming and responsiveness. A memory foam comfort layer reinforces the Purple Grid.

Unless the firmness level is set too high for the sleeper’s body weight, the ReST Bed shouldn’t feel overly firm. The combination of the Purple Grid and memory foam results in standout pressure relief for most sleepers.

The ReST Bed is covered in performance material that’s both breathable and moisture-wicking. Sleepers can easily remove the cover because it features a zipper, which goes all the way around the bed. Once removed, the cover may be machine washed.

Beneath the cover is the 2-inch Purple Grid, which is made of hyper-elastic polymer. The Purple Grid responds to pressure and cradles the body for pressure relief. The open channels of the grid also encourage airflow throughout the mattress and help fight heat retention.

Beneath the Purple Grid sits two inches of gel-infused memory foam. Memory foam offers additional pressure relief while reinforcing the Purple Grid. The gel infusion helps offset any potential heat retention.

The smart sensor layer sits between the memory foam layer and the support core, and it contains the tech that makes the ReST Bed a smart mattress. The smart sensor is a layer of knit blend fabric with around 1,000 sensor points on each side of the bed. This layer is soft and flexible, so you should not feel it beneath you. The sensors collect data and transmit it to an air pump and the ReST Bed app.

Adjustable air chambers make up the ReST Bed’s support core. There are five air chambers, which correspond to the following body parts: the head, shoulders, lumbar region, hips, and legs.

The five zoned air chambers create a customized mattress surface. Since body weight isn’t evenly distributed throughout the body, it makes sense for different mattress zones to be firmer or softer than others. The ReST Bed’s smart sensors determine how much pressure different parts of the body are putting on the bed and increase or decrease firmness in zoned areas accordingly.

To change the ReST Bed’s firmness level, the bed’s air pump must be plugged into an outlet. Sleepers can set the bed’s firmness using one of three modes: manual, auto-position, or automatic.

Does it Isolate Motion?

The Purple Grid layer has open space, which also allows for cooling airflow in the comfort system. The cover helps wick away moisture and heat.

Generally, memory foam is known as the mattress material that’s most likely to absorb heat. ReST infuses their memory foam comfort layer with gel to help counteract this tendency. That said, the ample airflow throughout the Purple Grid and support core primarily keep the bed temperature neutral.

Sleepers who tend to sleep hot and are concerned that the ReST Bed won’t be cooling enough on its own may opt to upgrade their ReST Bed with BedJet technology. With the addition of BedJet, sleepers can program the bed to maintain a specific temperature all night long. Customers may purchase BedJet when they purchase the mattress, or opt to purchase it later on.

Will It Sag Along the Edges?

The ReST Bed performs positively in terms of edge support, though not as well as some other mattresses. Most sleepers won’t have to worry about the edges of the bed buckling or rolling beneath their weight. Many people, especially those who weigh less than 130 pounds, will have no problem using the full surface of the ReST Bed.

Edge support determines how much of a bed’s surface is usable. When edges are too soft, people risk rolling off a bed if they sit or lie too close to the edge. Edge support can affect how comfortably people can share a bed and is an important consideration for amorous activities.

Is It Good for Sex?

The ReST Bed’s support core contains five air chambers, each under a different portion of the body. Each of the five zoned chambers can be set to maintain a different firmness level, ensuring each body part is supported the way that it needs. Sleepers can choose to adjust the firmness level of the ReST Bed in one of three ways:

Manual: The sleeper dictates the firmness of each air chamber.
Auto-position: The bed adjusts between two preset customized settings whenever the sleeper changes sleeping position.
Automatic: The bed automatically and continually determines the ideal customized firmness of each air chamber in response to the sleeper’s body weight distribution and sleeping position.

Sleepers can manage their ReST Bed through the ReST Bed app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices. The bed sensors communicate with both the app and the pump via a closed Wi-Fi connection. The pump must be plugged into an electrical outlet to work. The bed will not deflate if the pump is unplugged or electricity goes out, but sleepers will not be able to change firmness until electricity is restored.

The BedJet upgrade increases the bed’s smart capabilities, along with its price. With BedJet, the ReST Bed continually monitors the temperature of the mattress surface. If the bed deviates from a pre-set temperature, the BedJet device connected to the mattress will add heated or cooled air into the air chambers. BedJet can be set so each side of a queen or king mattress default to different temperatures.

Availability

The ReST Bed with Purple Grid is available online via the ReST website.

Customers may also view and purchase ReST Beds in-person at 150 retail stores in the U.S. Most of the retail stores are located in Midwestern and Southern states. Customers may find the retail store nearest them using ReST’s store locator.

Shipping

ReST ships the ReST Bed to the United States and Canada. Shipping within the U.S. costs $199. Shipping to Canada costs an additional fee of $199, for a total shipping fee of $398.

The shipping fee covers White Glove delivery. Old mattress removal is also available for an additional $99.

Additional Services

White glove delivery is the default delivery method for ReST Beds.

With White Glove delivery, two delivery people unbox and set up the mattress. They will also remove an old mattress for an additional fee. The entire delivery, setup, and cleanup process takes about 20 minutes.

The delivery team will call at least 24 hours in advance to set up an exact delivery time.

Sleep Trial

ReST offers a 90-day sleep trial on all mattress purchases made through their website. Customers may contact them within this time period to initiate a return. There are no return shipping or restocking fees, and ReST issues a full product refund.

Warranty

ReST offers a 10-year full warranty. The warranty is valid for the original purchaser only and is non-transferable.

Customers may initiate a warranty claim by calling or emailing the company. Within 10 years after purchase, ReST will cover the full cost of any replacement parts needed. They will also pay for shipping the parts.

The ReST Bed uses a modular design, so if something goes wrong with it, usually only a single part needs to be replaced. ReST typically ships replacement parts within one to three days of a warranty claim.

The warranty becomes void if customers do not use the mattress on an adequate bed frame or platform. For queen and king-sized beds, a 5- or 6-legged metal frame is adequate. For twin beds, a 4-legged metal frame is adequate.

Beds that have been burned or otherwise abused are not covered by the warranty.

Body impressions of up to 1.5 inches deep are considered normal wear and are not covered by the warranty.
