WinkBeds EcoCloud Mattress Review: Our Verdict
The WinkBeds EcoCloud is a comfortable, supportive, and durable hybrid mattress. It utilizes Talalay latex, a unique material that offers a great blend of bounce, support, and conforming comfort. The EcoCloud is about a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, making it a versatile choice for a variety of comfort preferences and sleep positions.
Despite its luxury features, the EcoCloud is priced very reasonably. It also offers a very eco-friendly choice for consumers, as it utilizes recycled steel, organic cotton, sustainably harvested New Zealand wool, and natural Talalay latex.
On the other hand, the EcoCloud may not be supportive enough for heavier sleepers. It also allows for a bit more motion transfer than comparable hybrids.

How Does the WinkBeds EcoCloud Mattress Feel?
The WinkBeds EcoCloud is a comfortable, supportive, and conforming mattress. It offers great pressure relief, along with targeted support where it’s needed most. The EcoCloud features a zoned design, which offers a customized blend of support and comfort in targeted areas. Firmer, more supportive foam and coils are utilized around the lower back, while softer materials are used around the hip and shoulder areas. The result is a highly responsive feel, without sacrificing the deep support that we all need for restful sleep.
The EcoCloud’s use of Talalay latex greatly contributes to how the mattress feels to sleep on. Talalay latex is a unique material that’s responsive and bouncy. It does not sink in as much as memory foam, yet it still conforms closely to the curves of the sleeper’s body. The buoyant feel of Talalay latex is one of the main driving forces behind the EcoCloud’s luxurious feel.
The EcoCloud is a mattress with a medium firmness, at about a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This makes it a versatile choice, as it’s comfortable for a wide variety of sleep positions and preferences. With that said, due to this bed’s zoned support system, it may feel different than other medium beds. The EcoCloud is unique in that it conforms more in some areas, and pushes back more in others. The result is a highly supportive feel, despite the foam comfort layer feeling relatively soft.
What Is the EcoCloud Made Of?
The WinkBeds EcoCloud is a hybrid mattress, meaning it utilizes both innerspring metal coils and a significant comfort system. Hybrid beds are designed to provide the excellent deep compression support offered by springs, combined with the cushy comfort of foam.
The underlying support layer of the EcoCloud is made up of a pocketed coil system, which features individually-wrapped metal coils. This layer is customized and features 5 zones, each with its own distinct level of support. The idea behind this zoned system is to provide extra support where it’s needed most. The perimeter is also reinforced with firmer springs, which help to bolster edge support.
The comfort system is a 4-inch thick layer of Talalay latex. This unique material is a buoyant and soft-yet-supportive foam made from natural latex rubber. It offers an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials like memory foam. WinkBeds uses aerated latex, which is engineered to be more breathable than comparable foams. Like the support layer, this latex layer is also zoned to provide targeted comfort and support. The space around the lower back is firmer, providing extra support, while the area around the shoulders and hips is softer, allowing the material to closely conform with these areas.
A soft quilted cover tops the mattress. The cover is made from organic cotton and sustainable New Zealand wool. These materials are soft, highly breathable and moisture-wicking, thereby helping to keep the sleepers cool through the night.
Every component of the EcoCloud is made with sustainability in mind. From the recycled metal used in the spring system, to the natural latex comfort layer, and the organic cotton cover, the EcoCloud truly lives up to its name.

What Type of Sleeper Is the WinkBeds EcoCloud Mattress Best for?
The EcoCloud is a versatile mattress that should be well-suited to a wide variety of sleepers. It’s moderately firm, making it a compromise for couples who may have different comfort preferences. Its hybrid design also provides great contouring around the hips and shoulders for side sleepers, while maintaining the deep support that back and stomach sleepers need. For each type of sleeper, here is what our testers found:
The EcoCloud was exceptionally well-suited to side sleepers. Our testing indicated that this model had the right amount of cushy comfort and contouring needed to cradle the hips and shoulders. Overall, our testers rated this mattress very well for side sleepers of all sizes.
Combination sleepers should also sleep well on the EcoCloud. Again, this model’s moderate firmness level offers a versatile choice for a variety of sleep positions. It’s firm enough to feel supportive on your back and stomach, yet cushy enough to accommodate your hips and shoulders while side sleeping. Unless you have a strong preference for very firm or very soft mattresses, the EcoCloud should perform well for this category.
Back sleepers may or may not find the EcoCloud to perform well, depending on their comfort preferences and body weight. Back sleepers typically prefer firm beds, and the EcoCloud has more of a medium feel, at around 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Our testing indicated that back sleepers of around 230 pounds or less should find the EcoCloud to be supportive enough, while heavier sleepers may wish to opt for a firmer model.
Like back sleepers, stomach sleepers generally need more support from their mattress. Otherwise, they may sink excessively around the chest, waist, and other areas of the body where they carry a disproportionate amount of weight. The EcoCloud’s zoned coil system offers enhanced reinforcement to prevent excessive sagging around these areas. Stomach sleepers may still find the mattress too soft due to its medium feel, but those weighing up to 230 lbs should feel adequately supported.
How Does Body Weight Impact the EcoCloud Mattress' Performance?
The body weight of a sleeper will always have an effect on how each mattress performs. Generally speaking, heavier people prefer firmer beds, as they provide more support and prevent excessive sinkage. Likewise, lighter sleepers usually prefer softer beds, as firmer models can feel too hard to provide adequate contouring. For the WinkBeds EcoCloud, here’s what our testers found:
For sleepers under 130 lbs, the EcoCloud mattress performed very well. Back and side sleepers of this category found the EcoCloud to offer the perfect blend of comfort and support. Stomach sleepers scored the bed slightly lower, but it still performed well overall.
For sleepers between 130 and 230 lbs, the EcoCloud performed well. Side sleepers of this category gave the EcoCloud the best marks, noting that its moderate firmness level was great to accommodate the hips and shoulders, while also maintaining support. Back and stomach sleepers rated the EcoCloud a bit lower as many found it comfortable, but others noted that it felt a bit too soft for adequate support.
For sleepers over 230 lbs, the EcoCloud performed fairly. For most sleepers of this category, the EcoCloud simply felt too soft. Although the latex foam provides a springy and responsive feel, many sleepers of this category found that they sunk into the soft foam too much for proper support. Side and back sleepers in this category may sleep comfortably on the EcoCloud, but it will likely be too soft for most stomach sleepers.
Is the EcoCloud Mattress Good for Couples?
The EcoCloud mattress should perform well for most couples. It scores highly in many of the most important factors, including edge support, temperature neutrality, and performance during sex. The EcoCloud’s moderate firmness level is also a fairly versatile choice, which should be a good compromise for couples with different comfort preferences.
The only downside of this mattress for couples is that it scored about average for motion isolation. The EcoCloud has a somewhat springy feel, due to its use of pocketed coils and responsive latex foam. While this creates a very comfortable feel and aids in ease of movement, it also transfers more motion than memory foam mattresses. If you or your partner are easily disturbed by each other’s movement, this is an important consideration to keep in mind.
